What do we mean by Publicity and Marketing and what do we offer?

Publicity is commonly defined as:

                                                a. information that concerns a person, group, event or product, that is disseminated through various media to attract public notice
b. the act, process or occupation of disseminating information to gain public interest

In order for your organisation to gain the community support, develop the services and maintain these, there needs to be a focus on communicating your information into the public domain.  At Dragon Tree we have many years of experience in assisting organisations to take their information out to the public.

Here are our publicity tips you could try yourself, or contact us for more:

  • Write about it - provide local news sources with a feature story on your organisation
  • Talk about it - attend forums, speak on the local radio, host events to tell others about your organisation and the services you offer
  • Draw it - use your brand or logo in all the places you can, on posters, t-shirts, screen savers, sides of buildings, all your printed material
  • Google it - make yourself known on the web, create a website and provide information that will be of use to your community
  • Offer it - let people see the service to encourage them to buy the service

Marketing is defined as:

an integrated communications-based process through which individuals and communities are informed or persuaded that existing and newly-identified needs and wants may be satisfied by the products and services of others (wikipedia)

In essence, marketing is utilised by organisations to create customers, keep customers once they have created them and then ensure they keep them satisfied.  To do this, you need to know your customer.

To effectively market your organisation, you need to follow these 5 principles:

  • Analyse your market
  • Select your market targets
  • Develop your marketing strategy or approach
  • Plan your marketing activity
  • Manage your marketing

Marketing should be appropriate, and suited to the needs and requirements of your organisation.  It is traditionally managed by one person.  It is not something that you can afford to get wrong too many times.
