12 best practices of Marketing

In essence, marketing is utilised by organisations to create customers, keep customers once they have created them and then ensure they keep them satisfied. To do this, you need to know your customer.

To effectively market your organisation, you need to follow these 5 principles:

  • Analyse your market
  • Select your marker targets
  • Develop your marketing strategy or approach
  • Plan your marketing activity
  • Manage your marketing

Marketing should be appropriate, and suited to the needs and requirements of your organisation.  It is traditionally managed by one person.  It is not something that you can afford to get wrong too many times so here are some quick tips to help you succeed

1.    Keep a clear, concise message – and make sure it’s only one offer at a time

2.    Make the message memorable – BOGOF – we all know what that means

3.    Ensure you keep it relevant to your target market

4.    Keep the message focused – even split by market sector

5.    Use the right tone of voice – and don’t use jargon

6.    Expect a new message / promotion to take time to get into the conscious – it maybe they need to see it up to 20 times for it to stick

7.    When you are in a position to capture potential customers details, do so, and keep for next time – remember to get their permission

8.    Make sure you are marketing a solution to a problem that does exist

9.    Do your research and get the right price for the product and also for your market

10.    Add some credibility to your message – use testimonials

11.    People buy benefits not features, so make sure you tell them how this will help them, not you

12.    Make it interesting – stop them in their tracks
